The field of dreams. If you haven't seen the movie- you need to.
I live in Iowa and at my very core, it is heaven to me. I love the fields, I love the towns, I love the tradition and the generations that live in the same 20 minute radius that allows cousins to grow up like siblings. I love the seasons. I love the people. I love the deeply rooted church history that pulls from various different denominational beliefs. I love "Iowa nice"....I love this place.
God is intentional with where He directs us. I remember a time of my life decades back that I thought all of my hopes, dream and desires were as far away from Iowa as I could get. That this was a place of simplicity and limitation that would become the ceiling to all the things God had planned for me. Little did I realize, I was meant to break those ceilings here and raise the bar for future generations.
There's a popular Christian song out there that says "If not us then who? If not me and you?" The actionable lyric is "Do something". What if we were all meant to Do Something in our families and communities that was never meant to leave? How often have all of us dreamed or expected the outcomes of our lives to be elsewhere rather than right where we are at? Is it possible that we transplant good things God intended for specific areas because of our own zeal and dissatisfaction with what has become familiar?
I don't know, but I wonder.
I'm in my forties now with two highschool kids---how I'm going to be an empty-nester in less then 4 years shocks me! And yet, at this stage of my life, I've come to a place of understanding and complete thankfulness that there isn't anything I feel is left undone as far as my contribution thus far to the world. You know why? The most important part of my world is right here in Solon, Iowa. All the things I love getting to be intentionally influenced in the measure that I have, here.
Everything I've learned. Everything I've pursued. Everything I've been passionate about- all of it has found a rich and fertile ground to be planted and cultivated in a way that will far outlast me. Wow. Gratitude. That is so humbling.
I get the opportunity to serve a church family that I LOVE. PS, not agree with everything on, LOVE. I get to grow with people interested in growing. I get to watch people get excited about Jesus and learn things that I remember learning as their eyes light up and their lives change. I get to watch God heal, save, deliver, blow people's minds and strengthen through the hard.
I get to be a part of the kingdom growing in Solon. Gratitude.
Now, I find myself in a place of leadership and influence at my home church. Equipping and Empowering new worshipers and worship leaders in an environment of hungry people from teens to aged, wise adults. All the things I yearned for that I thought God would take me and plant me in the churches that I sought far from here- all in my community and within my favor to assist. And guess what? It's growing.
Jordan Creek Church wasn't what I expected to be a part of at this point of my life, but it is exactly the community of people God intended to gift me to love and grow and empower one another. It's exactly the right place for Him to move a people and disciple a generation. His hand and orchestration of it all is undeniable.
We need to build a new building. Our current home is on schedule to be demolished. Joy from ashes is imminent.
I've watched the Lord stretch us ALL in faith and expectation and obedience. I've watched Him answer prayer after prayer and direct step by step.
I have no idea how He's going to help us raise the funds that we need- but I know He's good on His promises and He doesn't leave things unfinished.
I heard Him directly say to me years ago, "Lyndsie, if you build it- they will come". I believed at the time I was to be a part of a satellite location for BSSM (Bethel Supernatural School of Ministry).....and now, I wonder again.
He's up to something and I can't wait to see how it all unfolds!
